Mt Kenya is the the second highest Mountain in Africa at 5199m high after Kilimanjaro at 5895m. The mountain is located in the Mount Kenya National Park, which is a designated protected area. It is about 180 Kilometers out of Nairobi.
The following routes are the commonest ones to Mt. Kenya-Sirmon,Chogoria and Naro Moru.
Mount Kenya Climb Sirimon Route
Day 1: Nairobi-Sirimon - Judmier Camp (Old Moses Camp) Pick up from Nairobi at 0800Hrs and drive North with lunch en route in Nanyuki town for about 4hours. Proceed to Sirimon Gate about 2440m.
From the gate with your guide,cook and porters follow the track uphill through the forest to Sirimon gate for about 1 hour. A further 3hours drive to Judmier Camp which is about 3300m.
Here you will have your dinner and overnight Judmier Camp
Day 2: Judmaier Camp/Shipton Camp
After breakfast, follow the track uphill 6-7hrs treck crossing Ontulili River. Continue through the Moorland and crossing Liki North and continue uphill to Mackinders Valley from where there are panoramic view of Tereri and Sendeo peaks.
Dinner and overnight at Shipton Camp about 4200m
Day 3: Shipton Camp(Acclimatization Base) This day will be for acclimatizing. Walk to Kami Hut down to Hauseberg Lakes Walk back to Shipton for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Shiptons-Point Lenana
Depart at 3am up a steep stony quarry towards point Lenana arriving there at 6:30am, after about 3hrs. After the sunrise, descend down to Mintos hut on the chogoria trailf or about 2hrs, for breakfast and further 3 hrs down to Mount Meru Bandas at about 2950m,
Dinner and Overnight Mount Meru Bandas
Day 5: Chogoria-Nairobi After breakfast, descend in about 6 - 8 hours through tropical rainforest to Chogoria town. Meet your guide for transfer back to Nairobi, arriving late afternoon.
