Kitale is an agricultural town situated between Mt Elgon and Cherangani hills and is the administrative centre of Transnzoia county. The main cash crops are sunflower, tea, coffee pyrethrum and maize.
Sites to visit include Kitale museum and agro-forestry (a form of Agro tourism)  , Saiwa Swamp National park where you can see the rare Sitatunga antelope. This is Africa's true only amphibious antelope .They sleek through reed beds with great agility and swim very well. The town was founded in 1908 by British settlers.
